Spray Block Crochet Projects

Spray Blocking is used to get your crochet project to lay flat, get into shape and to take all the kinks and curls out of it. This method of blocking is used when your crochet project only needs a little bit of help to get into shape. In the diagrams below I am spray blocking my Crochet Octagon Coaster. This is a fairly simple process and only takes minutes to complete.

Materials Required

Blocking Surface or Blocking Board

Sewing Pins or Blocking Pins

Spray Bottle that sprays a fine mist like the 10 Oz Aluminum Spray Bottle

Towel or Hand Towel

Follow these instructions to spray block your own crochet projects.

Spray Blocking - Step 1Step 1:

You will need a blocking surface to work on such as:

-a towel on the floor, bed or ironing board

-a plastic covered piece of cardboard larger than your crochet project, or

-a blocking board.

I have used a hand towel on my ironing board.

Spray Blocking - Step 2Step 2:

Lay your crochet project on the prepared blocking surface.

Pull the project to the measurements required per your pattern.

Pin the crochet project to the surface with sewing or blocking pins.

Make sure the crochet project is firmly pinned to the blocking surface without any kinks or curls.

Spray Blocking - Step 3Step 3:

Fill your spray bottle with warm water.

Spray evenly over your crochet project.

Smooth out your project with your fingers lightly.

Let it dry completely then un-pin it from the blocking surface and your project is now complete ready for use.

I hope this has been of help to you in getting your crochet projects into ship shape!

All the best,

Paula Daniele
