Quadruple Treble – UK Stitch

In the video tutorial below you will learn how to crochet the Quadruple Treble Crochet Stitch on the 1st and 2nd rows.

Quadruple Treble Crochet Stitch abbreviation in UK Patterns: qtr

US Equivalent Stitch: Triple Treble (ttr)

Quadruple Treble Crochet StitchThe Quadruple Treble Crochet Stitch is the longest stitch of the basic crochet stitches and isn’t used all that often. It is a very open stitch leaving large gaps between each stitch because of it’s length.

This stitch could be used for a project such as a place mat for the dinner table.

You won’t see this crochet stitch appear in patterns books very much.

To crochet a Quadruple Treble stitch use the following instructions:

After having made a foundation chain of any amount of chain stitches, let’s start the 1st row,

  1. Wrap the yarn over the hook 4 times
  2. Insert hook into the top loop of the 7th chain stitch from the hook
  3. Wrap the yarn over the hook once
  4. Draw yarn through the chain stitch
  5. Wrap the yarn over the hook once
  6. Draw the yarn through 2 loops on the hook
  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 (4 more times)

You’ve now completed a quadruple treble crochet stitch. Continue crocheting one of these stitches into each chain stitch along the row until you come to the end of the foundation chain.

Once you’ve completed the above, let’s start on the 2nd row,

  1. Turn your work
  2. Make 6 chain stitches (this is called the crochet turning chain which brings your work up to the height required for the quadruple treble stitch and it is counted as 1 stitch)
  3. Insert hook into both loops (or in the space) of the 2nd stitch
  4. Wrap the yarn over the hook once
  5. Draw the yarn through the chain stitch
  6. Wrap the yarn over the hook once
  7. Draw the yarn through two loops on the hook
  8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 (4 more times)

Repeat steps 3 to 8 to complete stitches into the remaining stitches (or spaces) along the row; making your last quadruple treble into the turning chain (or turning chain space).

Repeat Row 2 to continue on with the pattern.

All the best,

Paula Daniele
