Crochet Bookmark Pattern

Crochet Bookmark

Instead of using an old scrappy piece of paper for a bookmark, crochet up this Crochet Bookmark Pattern and use it to mark your reading pages.

Crochet bookmarks also make gorgeous little gifts and don’t take long to make. You can jazz them up with buttons, tassels and other cute things.

Kids love these crochet bookmarks. Get them involved in what they could add to it to make it their own.

Materials Required

4.0 mm crochet hook

2 different colors of sports light weight yarn or 8 ply wool

Yarn Needle

Craft Scissors

Crochet Bookmark Measurements

10 inches/26cm Long x 2 inches/5cm Wide

Stitches & Terms

This pattern is using U.S. stitches. To convert stitches go to my Crochet Stitch Conversion Chart.

ch = chain

ch-3 = 3 chain stitches previously made

sc = single crochet

dc = double crochet

hk = hook

sl st = slip stitch

st = stitch

Written Instructions

Note: ch 3 = 1 dc st

Using main color yarn, ch 8.

Row 1: 1 sc into same sp as join, 1 sc into each ch st across to the end, turn.

Row 2 – 18: ch 3, 1 dc into each st across to the end; making last st into top of ch-3, turn.

Row 19: ch 1, 1 sc into same sp as join, sc in each st across row; making last st into 3rd ch of previous tch and weaving 2nd color yarn into last st.

Edging: Starting on the top of the bookmark, ch 1, sc in 2nd st, sc in each st across row to end.

Ch 3 on the corner, now working down left side of bookmark, *sc in tch loop, ch 1, rep from * to end of left side.

Ch 3 on the corner, now working across bottom of bookmark, *sc in next st, ch 1, rep from * to the end of bottom.

Ch 3 on the corner, now working down the right side of bookmark, *sc in tch loop, ch 1, rep from * to the last loop.

Ch 2 on the corner and sl st into 1st st, fasten off.

Weave ends in with yarn needle.
